Sports Director / Sales Development: WPLYWPLY - Sports Radio

Mel Wheeler, Inc. has an opening for a full-time position focused on Sales.  The priority of the position would dominantly be to develop revenue for the Sports station, but could include sales opportunities for our other stations, although with the greatest focus would be on our Sports and News/Talk stations.  The position would include operational oversight of the sports station as well.

We are seeking a person who can excel at new business development and serve existing advertising clients.  Candidates must be highly motivated with a strong work ethic and the utmost in integrity.

Candidates should:

  • Have a sports background and be passionate about Sports
  • Have previous sales experience
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excel at prospecting, new business development and relationship building
  • Have the ability to make in-person sales calls
  • Do well at selling concepts to advertising decision makers
  • Have good computer skills

Candidates must have: a high school diploma or equivalent, ability to drive, and a driver’s license with a good driving record.

Program Director: WSLQQ99

Mel Wheeler Inc. has a rare opening for a Program Director for WSLQ in Roanoke, Virginia.

Responsibilities include implementing the programming strategy and execution of the station; working with consultant on music programming and scheduling; scheduling and coaching on-air staff; station imaging; overseeing promotion and marketing; and maintaining and growing community involvement.

Candidates should have prior experience as a Program Director, assistant program director or music director; proficiency with Selector and digital automation and ability to perform an on-air shift as needed.  Strong social media skills and website content management skills – are paramount.  A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some college preferred.

Candidates must be highly motivated; have the utmost in integrity and a strong work ethic; work well with staff, consultant, operations manager, and all other departments; and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.  In addition to the skills and talents to do the job, candidates should contribute to making the company and station a positive place to work for all staff members.
